Other Note: The first conductor of the Houston Symphony was Julian Paul Blitz, who led the orchestra from 1913 to 1916. Paul Bergé became the conductor in 1916 and served until the orchestra disbanded because of World War I in 1918. The principal conductor held various titles over the years, with the title of Music Director first being awarded to Leopold Stokowski in 1955.
