Wuliger, David

David Wuliger was born October 21, 1921 in Cleveland, Ohio. He studied at the Cleveland School of Music and the Berkshire Festival. His important teachers were Saul Goodman and Karl Glassman.

Wuliger played as timpanist at the Cleveland Orchestra during the summer season of 1942. In World War II, he served from 1942-46 in the 386th Army Service Forces Band. From 1946 to 1986 he was principal timpanist of the Houston Symphony. He appeared as soloist with the orchestra several times during his forty year tenure and also toured with the Boston Symphony in the summer of 1960.

In 1949 he became the head of the Percussion Studio at the University of Houston School of Music, retiring from UH in 1984. He died July 2, 1998.
