Scope and Contents: Contains drafts for Hubert Roussel's history of the Symphony from 1963 until 1971. The early manuscripts’ various names were Fifty Golden Years, a History of the Houston Symphony Society, 1913 – 1963, and Beauty Persuaded: The Houston Symphony Orchestra 1913 - 1968.

Also included are Roussel’s notes on conversations with General Manager Tom Johnson and founder Ima Hogg as well as manuscript comments from Public Relations Director Alice Bruce Currlin. Research items which were undoubtedly supplied by Mrs. Currlin include drafts of the musicians’ union contracts for 1931 and 1933, agreements with early conductors Uriel Nespoli and Frank St. Leger, and correspondence between Maurice Epstein and Ima Hogg regarding the 1933 bylaws.

Photographs found in these records reflect what is presumed to have been part of Maurice Hirsch’s collection of ephemera on the Symphony: copies of early concert programs, a newspaper advertisement for the first concert in 1913, and several photographs from a 1962 Women’s Committee Maintenance Fund booklet, including the orchestra with Sir John Barbirolli and a meeting of the Women’s Committee Maintenance Fund
Committee.
