Includes records of the Women’s Committee dating from 1941 to the present. These comprise minutes, bylaws, scrapbooks, yearbooks, invitations, committee reports and fundraising events. Also included are President's records.
Access Restrictions: No restrictions.
Acquisition Method: One important box of records for the years 1933 to 1962 were transferred from offsite storage in April 2008.
Minutes of the Auxiliary Committee, precursor to the Women's Committee, are found in the 1933 committee records of the Houston Symphony Society: RG1, Subgroup 2, Series 1: Board Committee Minutes.
Scrapbooks dating from 1931 to 1978, along with various minutes and other administrative files, were deposited with the Houston Public Library in the 1980s. The Library also has Women’s Committee Minutes for 1937-1957.
Miss Ima Hogg founded the Women’s Committee of the Houston Symphony Society in 1937 and was its first president, serving until 1939. The group assumed the main responsibility of the earlier Auxiliary Committee of the Houston Symphony Society to promote ticket sales. Among the other duties of this group were school concerts and the annual fund drive.
In 1978 the group was renamed the Houston Symphony League. It continues to operate under the direction of the Houston Symphony Society.
